Kelag About Us
Legally, Kelag can be traced back to Karntner Wasserkraftwerke AG (KWAG), which was founded on January 28, 1923, in Klagenfurt. In Carinthia, KWAG is in charge of both peak electricity production and building a regional power grid. Starting in February 1925, the system got its electricity from the Forstsee pumped-storage power station, which was made to make electricity at peak times. Long-distance power lines were built from the Forstsee power plant to Klagenfurt, St. Veit, and Villach. These lines connected the different regional power grids to make the Austrian national grid.
In 1939, the firm changed its name from KWAG to Karntner Elektrizitats-Aktiengesellschaft (KELAG). In that year, 46 people worked for Kelag, which sent 5.5 million kWh of electricity to 68 settlements through 18 transformer stations. When it was finished in 1940, the Lassendorf substation linked Carinthia to the rest of Austria’s electrical system.

Kelag Strom
KELAG provides electricity to private homes all over Austria. There are different kinds of electricity products that come with price guarantees or regular index changes. There are also rates for homes with heat pumps and an extra rate for storage heat at night. The products only use energy that comes from renewable sources, so they don’t release any CO2.
Customers of KELAG get a discount if they pay their bills online and pay by direct debit. At KELAG, you can either use direct debit or a payment slip to pay your electricity bill every month.
