Introduction Mysisd?
The Socorro Independent School District (MySISD) is the second largest school district in El Paso, Texas. It serves more than 47,000 students in 49 schools. The district is 135 square miles big and serves the cities of East El Paso, Horizon City, and Socorro. MySISD is known as a “destination district” because of its high-quality teaching, unique programmes, and strong, supportive community. The district is open all year long, from July to May, with breaks in the fall and spring.
The Socorro Independent School District was made when the people of Socorro voted 63-0 in favour of it in 1961. At the time, there was only Escontrias Elementary School for students in the area. People went to either Clint High School or Ysleta High School for high school.
The district didn’t build its first high school, Socorro High School, until 1964. For 40 years, about 2,800 students would live at Socorro High School. The board of trustees for the district decided they needed another high school. Montwood High School was built in 1990. The SISD Student Activities Complex, which is where football games are played, was built in 1991.
