Processors from Intel Xeon 7400 series

As anticipated, in mid-September 2008 the company Intel officially introduced seven new models 7400 series Xeon processors for servers. According to the developers, news show significantly higher productivity (an increase of up to 50%) compared with previous generations of processors Intel.

New processors from Intel Xeon 7400 series produced by 45 - nm technology Hi-K Intel. They are based on transistors on the basis of hafnium compounds with metal closures. New items have frequency to 2.66 GHz, and their output does not exceed 50 Vt. Models consume the entire 65 W or 11 W per kernel. Servers with such processors can be produced in different form factors - high density rackmount or high-density mounting.

Decisions Intel Xeon 7400 series compatible with existing server platform Intel and Intel chipset 7300. According to available data, the servers can now be set to 16 processors. In doing so, the number of computing cores will reach 96.

It is expected that already starting from the date of release servers based on Intel Xeon 7400 series will offer manufacturers. This will rackmount servers from Dell, Fujitsu, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NEC, Sun, Supermicro and others. Note that when ordering a batch of thousands of pieces price of new Intel Xeon processors range from 856 to 2729 dollars.
