Samsung and Sun will offer SSD-drives for servers
Some time ago by Sun already received declarations of intent to begin the massive introduction of SSD-drives in servers, but then the name of a partner - the manufacturer of flash memory is not called. Well, now it ceased to be secret, because Samsung Electronics presented its design for this segment developed, according to announcements, in cooperation with Sun Microsystems.
The result of joint efforts has been the emergence 8 Gb NAND flash memory with a one-architecture (single-level-cell, SLC), five superior standard SLC-chips on the number of guaranteed cycles record-reading. This is the most important in terms of critical server applications with high data exchange with memory, such as processing streaming video, performance of large-scale search operations, etc.
Comparing drives on the basis of “server” SLC-memory hard disks, Samsung Declares hundred superiority over them on the ratio of the number of input / output operations at watts of consumption that can provide energy conservation and optimization directly, and by reducing the cost of heat.
